Centers Sunday! **Free** Valentine's Day Ten Frames for K/1

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Today I would like to share another FREE center for my teacher friends in kinder and first grade. I created a fun, Valentine's day ten frame activity where students can work on combinations of numbers 5-15 using candy hearts (or whatever manipulative you want).

My two older boys J (5) and B (3) had a fun time playing/working in the center and really loved eating the candy hearts afterward. :) Here are some pics of them working hard:

I used red gift bags and taped the numbers to the outside. The kids had to pick a card from the stack in the middle of the table. They built the number by placing a candy heart on each heart picture practicing 1:1 correspondence. Then they counted the total, took off the candy hearts and placed the card in the correct bag.

When they were finished, I had them record. They looked at the first number on their page and grabbed a card out of that bag. Then they recreated that combination of numbers with their hearts before recording it with crayons. My younger one actually didn't record (he's only three), he just placed the hearts to match the picture, which is still really good for him! He was also getting some fine motor practice by moving those little tiny hearts into the ten frame.

My oldest is five years old. He was able to record just fine. He said he couldn't draw the hearts but he would use circles instead.

You can grab this file here. One more thing...I am using my old Instagram account for personal use and I've created a separate one for Teachin' Little Texans. I would LOVE if you would follow me for ideas, fun, and giveaways. You can find me here. Thanks! Have a wonderful Sunday.

Second Grade Science TEKS Notebook Revised and Updated for 2018!

Hello Teacher Friends,

I hope you are all doing very well. I would like to share that for the last few months...yes months...I have been working hard to update my second grade science notebook file to meet the current state science standards. The science TEKS have been streamlined and are meant to be implemented for the 2018-2019 school year. You can view the science TEKS here: https://tea.texas.gov/curriculum/teks/

When I began revising my notebook I decided to add several things such as: sample 5E lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations, QR code activities and more. The file has grown by over 100 pages and I hope if you have purchased it that you can redownload and check it out!

If you haven't seen the file before here are some previews pics:

I have added quite a bit to this file...it's a little out of control, but I think if you teach second grade in Texas it is very, very helpful for you!! Since I have added so much, I will be increasing the price from $18 to $24. From today until February 7th, the price will stay at $18...but starting on the 8th, it will go up, so get it at a discount while you can! You can view the file here:

Join the H-E-B Buddy League! {Free kits for teachers!}

Hello teachers! I am coming out of bloggy "retirement" to share some great news with you! October is Bullying Prevention Awareness Month as well as Diversity Awareness Month and H-E-B has created some free tools for teachers to use in their classroom to support positive social behavior and diversity.

The program is called the H-E-B Buddy League. This program is committed to helping teachers promote inclusion and diversity in their classrooms. The teacher kits are absolutely FREE although they will be given out on a first come, first served basis. You can sign up for a free kit by clicking here.

 Take a look below to see what you will get in the kit.

I think these kits would fit most appropriately for kindergarten through third grade students as well as counselors looking for tools to support their campuses. H-E-B is also promoting a Student Advocate Award that is targeted specifically for 2nd grade students. You can learn more about that award by clicking here.

I hope you sign up for your free kit and enjoy promoting kindness and diversity in your classroom this month!
